How old are you?
What is the primary medium you work in?
What is your favorite medium to work in?
Anything simple, like markers and colored pencil
What is your favorite subject matter?
Characters! I love designing characters and figuring out how to bring them to life in drawings.
What art tools do you use, and do you have any tools or brands that you recommend?
I use Clip Studio Paint EX as an alternative to Photoshop. Clip was what I could afford at the time I began learning digital art, and since then has had amazing updates that make it very easy to use between programs.
How and when did you start creating artwork?
I’ve always been a scribbling kid, but I started viewing my drawings as a potential future around age 10.
If you could give any advice to your past-artist-self, what would it be?
I would tell her not to stress about finding her art style. It’s good to have many! And the more you learn the basics, the more a style will develop on its own from that practice.
If you could create anything in the world, what would you create?
An EPIC animated reboot of either, Sharkboy and Lavagirl, or Little Shop of Horrors. Bonus points if it could be a collaboration with Tim Burton!
What is your ultimate goal as an artist?
This might be a common answer, but my ultimate goal is to be able to live off of my creativity in any form. I major in animation, but have really become a jack of all trades throughout college from having to take multiple elective classes and such. I hope that in the future, this will come in handy for sustaining myself and finding projects.
Are you ready for the Halloween season? Is it your favorite holiday?
I’m ready year-round! Halloween season is by far one of my favorites. I love visiting and working Halloween events, seeing the decorations and costumes, and just getting to openly be more spooky. There’s something about the season that is just pure fun (when people are being safe), and I really appreciate that. Spooky season is a vibe.
What do you love most about The Haunted Mansion?
The secret story line about the P.O.V of the guests! I am really drawn to stories that are friendly on the surface, but have a darker meaning when you break them down. Mansion is a perfect showcase to that style of storytelling. And the aesthetics never get old!
Who is your favorite Grim Grinning Ghost/room at the Mansion?
The original ghost bride, Emily! She actually really scared me as a kid, but even though she intimidated me I couldn’t help but stare at her the whole time.
The 2003 Haunted Mansion film with Eddie Murphy, yay or nay?
When I was a kid, yay. When I tried re-watching it on Disney+ for nostalgia like last month? Still fun, but not as yay.
Which is better and why: the traditional Haunted Mansion, or Haunted Mansion Holiday?
I am /extremely/ biased on this one. Nightmare Before Christmas is the movie that made my brain click into becoming an artist, so I always enjoy the Mansion 999 times more during Holiday.
Would you like to share any stories/experiences/special memories that revolve around The Haunted Mansion?
I was super bummed out when Emily was switched to Constance because of that pull Emily had on me as a kid. I only found out a couple years ago that she is still hidden around in the attic during Haunted Mansion Holiday; I found her on accident and literally thought I made it up until I went back on the ride and found her again, and then again the next year. I look forward to seeing her every chance I get now. It feels like finding an old ghost friend from the past.
Would you take a hitchhiking ghost home?
I would take all three, absolutely.
Have you participated in the Artist Lodge Gallery before?
This is my first time participating! I’ve been following the gallery as a fan on Instagram for about a year, and I’m stoked to have been given the chance to be involved. Thank you!
Where can readers find your work?
I am most active on Instagram and am currently trying to grow my Patreon, both are @deevgart! My Instagram bio link also has a map of everything else I am on.
Anything else you’d like to add?
This has been an insane year for everyone, and I hope that you’re all hanging in there. I am doing what I can to find the positives in my situation, and it really does help balance out the chaos 2020 has served up. Galleries going online and providing more opportunities to artists is one of them, so thank you again to Artist Lodge for continuing to run your shows and working through it all! Stay safe and don’t forget to rest once in a while this spooky season!
