GALLERY ARTIST INTERVIEW: JECASAUR

How old are you?
I forget

What is the primary medium you work in?
Mostly digital but I do sew plush a lot and like to keep some watercolors handy.

What is your favorite medium to work in?
Digital, I’m pretty attached to my cintiq pen.

What is your favorite subject matter?
Monsters and kaijus.

What art tools do you use, and do you have any tools or brands that you recommend?
I don’t recommend a brand, its really whatever feels comfortable, so just try everything.

What sources would you recommend for artists that are interested in pursuing your art medium?
The best source in the world: YouTube. It’s honestly how I learned most of what I know now.

How and when did you start creating artwork?
Since I was a child, I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t drawing.

If you could give any advice to your past-artist-self, what would it be?
To just keep practicing and not to get hung up on trying to make stuff look perfect. Skill comes from practice.

If you could create anything in the world, what would you create?
To make a giant plush installation, I’ve made a 6ft plush piece before and it was kinda funky looking (my sewing skills have leveled up since then). Once I find the space I’d like to take another stab at it.

What is your ultimate goal as an artist?
To make creepy cute things that make people smile.

Are you ready for the Halloween season? Is it your favorite holiday?
I absolutely love Halloween and I love following it with Dia de los muertos. I do have a year round Dia de los muertos altar and I’ll update it and doll it up every year around this time.

What do you love most about The Haunted Mansion?
I can’t count how many times I’ve been on the ride and every time I find something new that I never noticed before. I love trying to decipher the many dark and quirky backstories happening with in the mansion.

Who is your favorite Grim Grinning Ghost/room at the Mansion?
That’s hard to narrow down, I’d have to say the graveyard. I love the atmosphere and the combination of creepy and festive.

The 2003 Haunted Mansion film with Eddie Murphy, yay or nay?
I have no interest in watching it.

Which is better and why: the traditional Haunted Mansion, or Haunted Mansion Holiday?
I prefer the OG, but I do enjoy the Holiday version.

Would you take a hitchhiking ghost home?
Only if they paid rent.
