How old are you?
What is the primary medium you work in?
What is your favorite medium to work in?
Ink and Marker
What is your favorite subject matter?
Curvy, brown, and gentle women with a little bit of spice in their personalities. I have been starting to really enjoy drawing forest backgrounds as well.
What art tools do you use, and do you have any tools or brands that you recommend?
I currently use the Cintiq 16 and Photoshop for school. In my free time I prefer to use my iPad Pro with Procreate. I recommend procreate for a beginning digital artist. It is a lot more forgiving than Photoshop and has an easier interface. Another alternative is Clip Studio which is like Photoshop but for manga artists. It is also really easy to use. For inking i use my handy dandy Pentel brush pen and Copic markers.
What sources would you recommend for artists that are interested in pursuing your art medium?
During the pandemic there have been so many resources we now have access too (even more than before)! For me my focus is in animation and this summer a lot of major studios have been hosting seminars about the business. I highly recommend attending some on them! I am currently active in the Rise Up Animation community dedicated to helping young BIPOC and they constantly host seminars with artist from studios like Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartooon Network. For figure drawing Croquis Cafe. and Ergo Josh for inspiring talks on Youtube. Ethan Becker is also good for analysis on story and breaking down hard topics.
How and when did you start creating artwork?
I have been drawing since I was five (I am one of those kids haha). But I didn’t really start purposefully creating art work until I was in middle (14/15 years old).
If you could give any advice to your past-artist-self, what would it be?
Just keep drawing. Keep creating. Even on those days when you have no motivation and everything you draw looks terrible, draw anyway! You recognizing that you art is bad just means you’re starting to grow and see you mistakes, which means you are improving!
If you could create anything in the world, what would you create?
A jet pack and some rocket shoes. I just want to fly from work. I hate taking the 91 freeway everyday haha!
What is your ultimate goal as an artist?
To create stories that I want to tell and share them with the world. I want my stories to be able to help young women fee empowered. I would love to do this through a TV animated series and through comics.
Are you ready for the Halloween season? Is it your favorite holiday?
SPOOKY SCARY SKELETONS! SHIVERS DOWN MY SPINE! Does that answer the question?
What do you love most about The Haunted Mansion?
I love that you don’t quite know the whole story of the haunted mansion. It’s very mysterious and has a whole host of characters you can obsessed over. It’s a friendlier version of a demented haunted house and I love it.
Who is your favorite Grim Grinning Ghost/room at the Mansion?
I love the ball room scene with all the ghosts dancing. It’s so graceful and pretty! The hat box ghost is a close second. My favorite version however is The Nightmare Before ChristmaS version Disney does every year at Disneyland.
The 2003 Haunted Mansion film with Eddie Murphy, yay or nay?
Which is better and why: the traditional Haunted Mansion, or Haunted Mansion Holiday?
Holiday. Because it is a perfect blend of both worlds.
Would you like to share any stories/experiences/special memories that revolve around The Haunted Mansion?
One time when I was on the haunted mansion our buggy stopped in the middle of the ride. And the music was on loop for a good 4 minutes. Our buggy was stuck in the crystal ball room. Best ride ever.
Would you take a hitchhiking ghost home?
Of course! Give me the short, beardy guy he’s a cutie!
Have you participated in the Artist Lodge Gallery before?
I have. I think this is my 4th show!
