GALLERY ARTIST INTERVIEW: SEY STUDIOS

How old are you?
34 years young!

What is the primary medium you work in?
I primarily work in traditional mediums like acrylic, ink, and watercolor.

What is your favorite medium to work in?
Currently, my favorite medium is acrylic.

What is your favorite subject matter?
I love making characters happy and curvy with long ridiculous eyelashes and rosy pink cheeks. It doesn’t matter if it is human, animal, or something of make-believe.

What art tools do you use, and do you have any tools or brands that you recommend?
Favorite tools of the trade are col-erase pencils, ball point pens, and Deco Art acrylic paint with Trekell paint brushes and a few decade old brushes for texture.

What sources would you recommend for artists that are interested in pursuing your art medium?
Find art you like and follow those artists. What I recommend might not interest you. I find a lot on Instagram and watch reels and timelapses that I find interesting and discover new talent that way.

How and when did you start creating artwork?
I started creating artwork and displaying in shows in 2003… so 17 years now.

If you could give any advice to your past-artist-self, what would it be?
Don’t worry about what other people are doing. Make art that makes you happy. Know that you will get better and better each day you practice, so practice daily. It takes time to build a business, so learn all you can if you want to do it solely on your own. You are doing exactly what you need to, be patient and don’t give up. Not everything will work out in your plans, but work out better in the long run. God know’s what He is doing when He allows things to happen and others to not. Trust in the process of life.

If you could create anything in the world, what would you create?
A book! I’m working on one with my hubby, but it takes time! I really want to get it done.

What is your ultimate goal as an artist?
My ultimate goal is to make sure I continue to inspire hope, light, and joy in everything I do and create. This world needs more happiness. I use my talents for good.

Are you ready for the Halloween season? Is it your favorite holiday?
Oh goodness yes! I’m so ready! Our home has been decorated since the first week of September.

What do you love most about The Haunted Mansion?
All the ghosts and spirits. I love anything that has to do with the afterlife and psychic abilities. I have loved The Haunted Mansion since I was a little girl, even though it was a little unnerving at first, I loved how all the ghosts actually were joyful and enjoying themselves on the other side. Life beyond the veil. It’s so enchanting!

Who is your favorite Grim Grinning Ghost/room at the Mansion?
Oooo that’s hard… but I do love the Sally the Tightrope Walker, Constance the Bride, and Madam Leota.

The 2003 Haunted Mansion film with Eddie Murphy, yay or nay?
Yay! I need to rewatch it again, but I am a fan of retellings and different versions of the story. I’m game for a different one too if that were to happen. Let’s do it! All things Haunted Mansion, sign me up!

Which is better and why: the traditional Haunted Mansion, or Haunted Mansion Holiday?
I love when things change, so I don’t mind it, but if I had to pick, traditional.

Would you like to share any stories/experiences/special memories that revolve around The Haunted Mansion?
Snuggling up against my boyfriend (aka hubby now) while we went on the ride! That’s always wonderful.

Would you take a hitchhiking ghost home?
The prisoner. I always thought he resembled an old Shakespeare, and so I’ve called him that since as far as I can remember. lol

Have you participated in the Artist Lodge Gallery before?
Yes. ❤
