What is the primary medium you work in?
I primarily use traditional mediums like watercolor, ink, pastel, and color pencil.
What is your favorite medium to work in?
Currently loving color pencil and markers.
What is your favorite subject matter?
Animals and people.
What art tools do you use, and do you have any tools or brands that you recommend?
I really enjoy prismacolor premier color and col-erase pencils.
What sources would you recommend for artists that are interested in pursuing your art medium?
I would recommend YouTube tutorials for color pencil techniques and practice. I find the more I practice drawing from real life the more realistic my finished art becomes.
How and when did you start creating artwork?
According to my mother I was drawing before I was walking and talking. I really feel that I started creating art when I was in high school.
Who or what are your biggest artistic influences?
Hmm biggest influences currently are Wayne Thiebaud, Vincent Van Gogh, and Georgia O’Keeffe.
What piece of art do you most closely identify with?
Tricky question currently identify with Alphonse Mucha’s four seasons. Ask me later and it might change to Van Gogh😏.
If you could give any advice to your past-artist-self, what would it be?
Small steps are still steps … keep going forward.
What is your absolute dream project? If you could create anything in the world, what would you create?
I would love to be a resident artist at a National park and paint a mural on the side of of one of the visitor buildings.
What is your ultimate goal as an artist? Has this changed over your art career?
My ultimate goal is to Create art to tell stories… to make people think and feel about the mysterious whimsical magical world around them. It hasn’t changed so much as evolved. I always wanted to tell stories now it’s focused on whose story I’m telling.
What is your favorite plant and/or animal?
Currently succulents ( they are very drought friendly)
Is nature something that you’re drawn to?
I have always been drawn to nature.
Can you tell us about the pieces you created for this gallery?
The piece I created for this gallery is inspired by the Descanso Gardens in Pasadena.
Are there any messages that you’re aiming to convey with the art you created for this gallery?
Nature hides wonderful surprises.
Would you like to share any stories/experiences/special memories that revolve around the theme of this gallery?
Flora and Fauna are two of my main inspirations for art.
If you could invent any kind of plant or animal, what would it be/look like/what kind of environment would it thrive in?
Hmm a flying horned cat the size of a horse and the personality of a golden retriever that guards the entrances to the forests of the world.
