OC Weekly: Trendzilla Feature

Hello all!

We wanted to share something special with you. Last week, Eva and I met with Aimee Murillo of the OC Weekly so she could interview us for a column in the OC Weekly.

We’re super excited to announce that the feature is live online and ready for you to read! Check it out here!

Art by Lamont Hunt of Dakota Kid Creations

This article is short, sweet, and wonderfully written. We’re so thankful to have been chosen for this feature. We had a lot of fun doing the interview (plus it was an excuse to just hang-out and get some coffee), and we hope that we have the opportunity to do more coming down the road!

We’re also taking this opportunity to officially announce that I am joining the Fan*Alley family at the creative curator of the Artist Lodge events. I am so incredibly grateful to Eva and everything she’s done for me. I can’t believe I’ve know her less than two years, and simply started out as a vendor at the very first Artist Lodge in Anaheim. She’s a talented, and incredible person, and I’m so lucky to call her one of my closest friends and now business partner.

Be sure to come to my first curated Artist Lodge event on December 9th, at the Art Institute of Orange County, and see if I totally blow it. (Just kidding, it’s going to be awesome!)

More blogs and updates to come!

Ornamental Oddities Gallery

Come one, come all for the first annual Ornamental Oddities gallery at the Fan Alley Artist Lodge!

Tired of going to the store to look at holiday decorations and then leaving disappointed when you can’t find any unique ornaments with characters you love or visuals you like? We can help with that.

Ornamental Oddities is a gallery that will feature a collection of creative holiday ornaments, all designed and decorated by local artists.

ARTIST APPLICATIONS FOR THE GALLERY ARE OPEN. Please email your portfolio, or website that has your artwork on it, to

This is a family friendly event, and all ages are welcome! Pets are welcome OUTSIDE of the Art Institute!

Just like previous Artist Lodge events that you’ve come to know and love, this night will feature free parking and entry, multiple local artists and creators selling their work, a large gallery of original work, and a silent raffle.

Cash is king as some vendors may not be able to accept cards. Raffle ticket purchases will be cash only. All raffle proceeds will be donated to Christine’s Cats and Canines Animal Rescue/Foster Care (@christinescatsandcanines)

Cosplay Model Drawing will be provided by Shannon Blair (@canoncosplay, Canon Cosplay) and Shannahs Bananas (@shannahsbananas, ShannahsBananas).

While this is a free art event we ask that you please bring cash to tip the models. They will be bringing their holiday Poison Ivy and Holiday Harley cosplays. There will be four single 15 minute poses, a short ten minute break, and then both will be doing a 20 minute pose together.

Bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots and receive 5 free raffle tickets per toy.

The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.

Bring your family and participate in the Scavenger Hunt! Scavenger pages will be available at the event. Take your page to each vendor and to the gallery host and collect stamps! Those that collect all the stamps will be entered to win a special, surprise goody-bag!

Come wearing your ugliest holiday sweater and enter to win the Ugly-Sweater contest!

Refreshments will be provided in the gallery while supplies last.

Food will also be available for sell from the wonderful Waffle-icious food truck! They have fair prices, a quick-turn around, and their food is delicious. Sweet desserts and savory waffle sandwiches. Can’t beat that!

This Artist Lodge event is also the inaugural show for new Fan*Alley coordinator Marissa Suto. She will be curating both the vendors and the gallery, and running the event. Please feel free to send her any feedback or suggestions that you may have via the “Contact” tab in the menu bar.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
– No ID required! No tickets required! This is a family friendly event, and all ages are welcome! Just please respect the art and the artists.

What can I bring into the event?
– Anything you like within reason. Many of our guests enjoy bringing their sketchbooks and art tools and having artists doodle in them, or just sketching from life. If you have any art by the participating artists and they’re attending the event, you’re welcome to bring them for the artist to sign. PLEASE BRING CASH if you intend to make purchases. We’ll also only be taking cash for our raffle tickets.

Dress policy?
– Again, anything within reason. It’s completely casual. It’s also Halloween time! Feel free to cosplay 🙂 Just please respect those around you (it is an all ages, family friendly event) and the artists and don’t bring any large props that may bump into tables or displays.
